An Engineers Memory of Vic
Back in 1992, I purchased a a plot of land in the NC mountains & had a road built to my mountain homesite. The road had multiple switchback on its way to the homesite because the homesite was several hundred feet above the road in the bottom of the valley. Later I purchased a mobile home to put on the homesite & I was concerned that the curve radius of switchbacks was so tight that the mobile home wouldn’t be able to go through the tight turns … so I built a full size mock-up, truss, of the mobile home footprint out of wood in my back yard that could be disassembled in manageable pieces. The truss assembly was mounted on an old ford front axle assembly so it could be rolled up the road. Vic & Mike Davis were interested in my elaborate project & wanted to assist in the project. After the mock-up was completed, we loaded the assembly that weighed 700 lbs into my truck & we all headed to the mountain. We assembled the truss & started pushing it up the mountain road to see if the real mobile home would fit without road modification. Pushing the truss up the road wore Mike Davis & myself out so we wanted to stop & rest after about 75 feet of progress. Mike & I stopped pushing but Vic continued. Mike & I had to make Vic stop. Vic was pushing the truss up the mountain by himself! Vic was as strong as an ox! Finally we convinced him to take a break. Then we all worked together to push the truss up the full 1/4 mile.
Vic was so much more than a good Christian friend. I’ll see him in the future that will never end when we praise & worship God together in heaved.
