Virginia Harris' Obituary
Virginia Tarlton Harris, 88, of Cornelius, died September 9, 2012 at her home. She was born in Charlotte on February 15, 1924 to the late William Alexander Tarlton and Della Messer Tarlton. Virginia graduated from Central High School and attended Queens College. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. George Irons and retired from the Nalle Clinic in Charlotte.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Cornelius, NC. At Bethel, she was a member of Neighborhood Bible Study groups, and served as Deacon, Circle Chair and on the Share Home Committee.
Virginia was predeceased in 1984 by her loving husband, Rupert Emerson Harris, Jr. After Rupert’s death, she joined with other women friends in a “Kindred Spirits” group which met monthly for fellowship for almost 20 years. Virginia loved her friends, including Rupert’s and her special friend of 35 years, Dan Turner. She also loved antique furniture, creative entertaining, travel, her cats, flower arranging, music and witty good humor.
Survivors include her niece Becky Balentine of Charlotte; nephews Alan Balentine and wife Sherrie of Mooresville; Rick Balentine and wife Kathy of Charlotte; Bob Balentine of Charlotte; Great nephews Adam Balentine of Mooresville; Nathaniel Balentine of Landis; William Balentine and wife Jennifer of Kannapolis; Darren Balentine and wife Karen of Waxhaw; Great nieces Elizabeth Fife and husband Bill of Mocksville; Ashley Balentine and Leslie Balentine of Charlotte; Jessica Balentine, Rebekah Balentine and Sarah Balentine of Gans, OK and many great, great nephews and nieces.
Virginia’s family and friends are deeply grateful to members of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel’s Parish Nurse Beth Moss, Hospice of Lake Norman, her neighbors at Lakecrest, and to her loving caregivers, Lynn Brittain, Olena Chlek, Diane Helms, Marie Hicks and Nicole White, who enabled her to remain in her home and brought joy to her life.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031, and Hospice of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Davidson, NC 28036.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Cain and Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Church prior to the service.
