Virginia Jones' Obituary
Virginia ( Ginny) J. Jones (Jones), 84, of Cornelius formerly of Endwell, NY, died peacefully on December 21 in
North Carolina where she had resided for the past four months. Born to the late Robert E. and
Pauline (Bly) Jones on November 3,1930 in Utica, NY. Upon graduation from Utica Free Academy in 1949,
she went to work at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, NY, where she met and married her beloved
husband of 40 years, David R. Jones (also deceased).
Before becoming afflicted with Alzheimer’s, Ginny had been, for many years, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels; as
an active member in Daughters of the Nile, she tirelessly worked their rummage sales, dinners, Shriners Circus, etc.,
helping raise funds for Shriners Hospital for Children; she also volunteered for the American Cancer Society.
She is a former member of First Baptist Church, Johnson City, NY. Ginny will be remembered for her kindness, caring
and generous life.
Ginny is survived by her son, Russell B. Jones (Melanie) of Cornelius,
NC; a daughter, Sandra A. Coon of Brewerton, NY; two grandchildren, Tara
Connors and Lindsay Marie Coon; and three great-grandchildren. She is
also survived by two brothers, Robert B. Jones (Betty, deceased) of Haverhill,
MA and Jack P. Jones (Alison) of Clinton, NY; a sister-in-law,
Nancy Jane Ludlow of North Myrtle Beach, SC, along with several nieces
and nephews. The family would also like to recognize Ginny’s special companion
for 13 years, Fran Uvegas, who filled her life with love and joy.
Funeral Services will take place in New York State.
