Virginia Ann Jaeger White's Obituary
Virginia “Ginny” Ann Jaeger White, 86, of Cornelius, went home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2024. She passed peacefully in her home after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Ginny was born on September 29, 1938. The youngest of four children, she grew up in Dumont, New Jersey, under the nickname “Little Gin”. After graduating from Dumont High School in 1956, Ginny attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Ann Arbor, Michigan to be close to her two sisters and her nieces and nephews. It was here that a precious group of life-long friends who called themselves “The Big Ten” was formed. Over the years, this group of friends became like sisters to one another, going on to have many memorable experiences together and supporting one another through the ups and downs of life. Ginny graduated from nursing school in 1959 and, after two years as a pediatric nurse, began working in the oral surgery department of University of Michigan Dental School. It was during that time that she was introduced to her husband, Marty, by his brother, Bill, who was a student there.
Ginny and Marty were married on August 31,1963, and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they lived for four years while Marty attended dental school. It was there that they welcomed their first two children, Kristen and Steven. After dental school, they moved back to Michigan to be near their families; Marty established a dental practice, and their two younger children, Brad and Marty, were born. Ginny stayed home with the children and embraced that role. She was a loving mother who brought order, joy and peace into the family home, humming and singing Broadway and religious songs all day long.
In 1978, Ginny and Marty moved their family to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Ginny helped Marty establish a new dental practice and ran its front office. She continued to raise her four young children, played tennis, joined a garden club, participated in many Bible studies, and was very active in her Catholic community. Above all of the activities that Ginny loved, what she cherished the most was the time she spent with her family, especially when they were all gathered together for holiday, at the annual “WhiteFest” beach trip, or for family sing-a-longs.
In more recent years, Ginny became “Gigi” to her 17 beautiful grand children, two great-grandchildren… and many others, too! She was an avid traveler and always up for an adventure. Known by many as the life of the party, Ginny was not only hilarious but also a kind, thoughtful, selfless, and loving soul who would do anything for anybody. She was a faithful member of the St. Mark Catholic Church parish community since its inception and an active member of Mary’s Women of Joy for almost 20 years where she cherished the holy friends and was abundantly blessed by the sisterhood . It was obvious to those that knew her that her faith was the most important thing in her life. She spent many hours in adoration and praying the Rosary. Right up until the day she departed this life, she was an amazing example of how to trust God in all things, surrender everything into His hands, and put Him first no matter what happens.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Henry and Helen Colgin Jaeger; her siblings, Doris McKeon, Carol Rademacher, and Robert Jaeger; and her husband, Martin Matthew White. She is survived by her daughter, Kristen White Welborne of Huntersville, NC; her sons, Steven (Debi) White of Huntersville, NC, Bradley (Kerry) White of Huntersville, NC, and Martin (Shannon) White of Mooresville, NC; her 17 grandchildren: Madison (Zack), William, Harrison, Matthew, Robert/“Jack”, Hannah, Connor, Joshua, Griffin, Emma, Elizabeth/“Libby”, Jacob, Joseph, Michael, Gabriel/“Gabe”, Jonah, and Anna; great-grandchildren, Nora and Judea; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at St. Mark Catholic Church from 10-10:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Committal services will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Ginny would have appreciated memorial contributions in her name to Saint Mark Catholic Church’s “Growing Home” Capital Campaign, 14740 Stumptown Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.
