Walter Burgess Sr.'s Obituary
Walter E. Burgess, Sr. 72, of Manteo, NC, formerly of Huntersville, died January 18, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1949 in Smithfield, NC. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army. He also served as a Pastor for the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) for 34 years.
Walter, known to his family as Buddy, was a simple man who lived his life loving the Lord, his family, his country, and others. He was a man who knew no stranger. A man who left a lasting impression. A man who lived life to his fullest enjoyment. Walter was the highlight of any gathering. He loved children, and children loved to be around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and the message of never giving up hope.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Felicia and their two sons Sonny (fiancée Ashley) and Aaron (Crystal) and his three grandchildren, Jennifer, Haven, and Zachary. He is also survived by his brother David; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Walter was preceded in death by his daughter Retha, his parents Walter and Retha Burgess, his sister Carol Money and brother Robert (Bobby).
Visitation will be 4-6 PM Wednesday, February 2 at James Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 3 at China Grove Church of God. Burial will follow at 1:00 at Salisbury National Cemetery.
