Walter Craven's Obituary
Walter Pharr Craven, 92, of Huntersville, died January 6, 2026 at his home. He was born on June 12, 1933 in Catawba County.
Walter served in the US Navy during the Korean War and married Peggy Mayes right off the ship. Their courtship was primarily by mail during his time at sea. While Walter & Peggy never had children of their own, they invested greatly into the lives of many young people and families. Walter was known for his faith, integrity, and handy-man abilities. He served in many capacities at Ramah Presbyterian Church. One of his favorite events to participate in was the Christmas Cantata, Christmas in the Country, and any event that included food and socializing!
Survivors include multiple nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and even 2 great-great nieces!!
His wife Peggy Mayes Craven preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Ramah Presbyterian Church.
A funeral service will be held at 3PM Wednesday, January 14 at Ramah Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2:30-3:00 prior in the sanctuary.
