Walter "Mickey" Pharr's Obituary
Walter Mack Pharr, III (“Mickey”), 68, of Davidson, died peacefully December 13, surrounded by his family, after fighting a long and brave battle with cancer. He was born on April 22, 1946, the son of Walter Mack Pharr, Jr. and Dorothy Nance Pharr, who preceded him in death. Mickey grew up on Walnut Street in Davidson and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1964. He served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division.
After a wide ranging series of jobs, he became fascinated with commercial truck tire retreading and he founded Pharr Retreading in 1985, which he operated until his death.
Mickey was a long-time and active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, where he served as Deacon and frequent volunteer.
Mickey’s family is grateful for the loving care given by his cousin Becky Carter during the last several months of his life.
He is survived by his son, Kelly Pharr, and his wife, Summer; his daughter, Wendy Speckman, and her husband, Damien; his sister, Phyllis A. Pharr; and five grandchildren: Davis Pharr, Holden Pharr, Anna Katherine Pharr, Brody Speckman and Cole Speckman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16, from 6-8 pm, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville.
The burial service in Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson will be private.
Following burial, there will be a memorial service, led by the Reverend Dr. William Cain and the Reverend. Mr. John “Dee Dee” Wayland, Jr., Pastor Emeritus, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius on Wednesday, December 17, at noon.
After the service, the family will receive visitors in the Fellowship Hall.
