Wayne Raye Hyde's Obituary
Wayne Raye Hyde, 67, of Denver, NC transitioned peacefully on July 17, 2025 to be with his Heavenly Father.
Wayne was born on the 20th of July, 1957 in Charlotte, NC to Lonnie and Ruby Hyde. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, as well as his sister Patsy Hyde Hildreth.
Mr. Hyde is survived by a large family who loved him dearly including his significant other of 35 years Mary Jay, his mother Ruby, his daughter Shannon Carson (Brad), his son Shane (Maria), brothers Wade (Kimberly) and Billy (Michelle), sister Vickie Starnes (Pat), bonus daughter Jody Forbes (Steve) and bonus son Tripp Jay (Cassie), grandkids Zachary Kopka (Klorissa), Jordan Kopka, Landon Jay, Abigail Jay, and great granddaughter Aubrey Kopka, along with many nieces and nephews.
Wayne, who was also known as “Fatback” or “Wayne-o” was truly a light in every room he entered into, always recognized by his large glowing smile, contagious laughter, unforgettable bear hugs, and one of a kind sense of humor. Many would agree it was near impossible to be in the same room as Wayne and not find yourself smiling and laughing. He was truly “one of a kind” and the enormous size of his heart was evident to everyone who knew him.
Wayne was a humble man whose countenance and zeal for life were evident and well received. He made friends everywhere he went and found his joy and happiness in the simple things that life offered including fishing, tinkering projects, spending time with his family, riding his “swag cycle” and of course his iconic sci-fi movies. He always looked forward to his yearly fishing trips with his brothers and thoroughly enjoyed taking trips to Lake Fontana and the beach.
He was a pillar to his family and his selflessness, strength and courage were on full display, particularly in the last several years of his life. His presence with us will be deeply grieved, but we are however at peace knowing that his spirit lives on, as he now rests in the arms of his Heavenly Father and is no longer suffering.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, July 24th at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian church in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 pm prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078.
