William Hilary Lindsay “Bill”passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the age of 70. He was born and grew up in Gastonia, NC and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before graduating from North Carolina State University with a Masters in Civil Engineering and the Tau Beta Pi Honor. At Carolina, he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. It was in Chapel Hill where he met and married Judith Crump of Charlotte. They were married in Charlotte in August of 1969 and raised 2 children in Clemson, SC.
Bill worked for Duke Energy for more than 20 years and was an integral part of the completion of the Bad Creek Hydroelectric Power Plant. He is survived by his wife Judy Lindsay of Huntersville, NC, sons, Marshall Lindsay of Charlotte and Ryan Lindsay of Houston, daughter-in-law, Sally Lindsay and son-in-law, John Ross Palmer. “Pop” was a loving and proud grandfather to Hil and Ann Marshall and passionately followed their swimming achievements.
Bill volunteered for and eventually served as the President of the South Carolina Tennis Association. He will be missed, but remembered for his total devotion to family, love of all sports, especially the Carolina Tar Heels, unlimited patience and meticulous attention to detail.
James Funeral Home in Huntersville is assisting the family, who have respectfully requested no flowers. At Bill’s request, there will be a private life celebration at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the South Carolina Tennis Patrons Foundation.
