William Thomas "Tommy" Honeycutt's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we share the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, William Thomas “Tommy” Honeycutt, 77, of Huntersville. He passed from his earthly body and stepped into the presence of the Lord on February 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after an extended battle with congestive heart failure.
Tommy, a Davidson native, was born in Iredell County to the late James “Bill” Honeycutt Sr. and Agnes Foy Honeycutt Stowe. He was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Honeycutt Jr. and his step-father, J. P. Stowe.
Tommy was known for his impeccable work ethic, his love for family, and his servant’s heart. In high school, he worked at various gas stations in Davidson followed by jobs at Wither’s Electric and the Town of Davidson. From 1966 – 1972, Tommy also served his beloved country in the Army National Guard. After joining the Town of Davidson Volunteer Fire Department in the late 1960s, he began pursuing a career at the Charlotte Fire Department. On February 23, 1972, he began his 25 year career where he worked as an engineer and EMT at stations #1, #22, #11, #18, #7, and #5 until he retired on July 2, 1997. Tommy continued working after his retirement and was an active owner of pH Pools, a company that grew exponentially because of his hard work, dedication, and wonderful customer service. That was not enough for Tommy, who was happiest when he was working. In 2008, he worked tirelessly to start Charlotte Metro Hyperbarics where he served his favorite population, special needs adults and children. Tommy combined his strong work ethic with his compassionate heart and quickly became a favorite for his clients. All of his life experiences prepared him for his most rewarding “job”, taking care of his granddaughter Gracie.
Family was everything to Tommy. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 58 years, Marcelle Hager Honeycutt, his sister Sandra Honeycutt Boyd of Davidson, and brother, Tim (Terry) Honeycutt of Denver. His pride and joy were his three daughters, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; daughters: Shannon (Brian) Pridmore of Huntersville, Kim (Jamie) Gamble of Mooresville, and Heather (Jason) Phillips of Olin, grandchildren: Haley Hannibal, Mica Gamble, Vayda (Michael) Powell, Kara Phillips, Raegan Pridmore, Hannah (Johnny) Coc, Gracie Pridmore, Aliza Phillips, Jenna (Dale) Hahn, Thomas Phillips, and Michael Phillips, and great grandchildren: Aiden, Gavin, Jack, Ashton, Madi, Henry, Logan, Parker, Grayson, Carson, Dylan, Piper, and Ray.
In Tommy’s spare time he loved cooking and visiting the North Carolina coast. Spending the day in the kitchen making his famous country style steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes gave him immeasurable joy. His fellow firefighters can attest to his kitchen skills. If you were lucky enough to go with him to the beach, he always shared his love for the ocean and fishing with you. In addition to that, you may have even seen one of his donkey impersonations.
Please join us in celebrating Tommy’s life on March 9th at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. Family visitation will begin at 2pm followed by a 3:30 service. Directly after the service, Tommy will be laid to rest at a graveside ceremony at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson, NC.
