William Poulton's Obituary
William L. Poulton, 77, of Cornelius died December 16, 2014. He was born in Washington D.C. on November 13, 1937 to the late William and Helen Poulton.
Survivors include Ginny Poulton, his wife of 53 years, of Cornelius; sons, Bill and wife Tara of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Jeff and wife Beth of Acton, MA; daughter, Bryn Issel and husband Ryan of Oak Park, IL; sister, Sue Poulton of Wellesley Hills, MA; and 10 grandchildren.
Bill graduated from the Landon School in Bethesda, MD, and attended and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation from Miami (OH), Bill attended the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island where he earned his commission and was subsequently assigned to the USS Thetis Bay (LPH6) where his duty included participation in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following 3 years of active duty, Bill completed a 20-year career in the US Naval Reserves. After completing his naval service, Bill entered the corporate world and worked in the telecommunications industry for 30 years in a variety of sales and marketing roles for Indiana Bell and Bellcore before retiring after 30 years of service. Bill & Ginny enjoyed an active and eventful retirement while living for 5 years in New York City, and for 15 years in Cornelius on Lake Norman. While in Cornelius, Bill enjoyed playing, watching, and talking about any and all sports. He was a passionate fan of the Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Reds, and the Duke Blue Devils. He was a member of Davidson United Methodist Church, Southenders Mens’ Club, and a variety of charitable organizations including the USO Charlotte Center. His greatest joys were derived from traveling the world with Ginny, and from spending time with his 10 grandchildren. Bill was a proud veteran and a patriot, and he will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

A celebration of his life reception will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, January 3, in the community room of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville, NC 28078.
