William Puett Kidd's Obituary
William Puett Kidd
Mr. Kidd, 91, of Huntersville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. He was the son of James Barkley Kidd and Nettie Oliver Caldwell Kidd of north Mecklenburg County.
He served in the United States Army in Germany during and after World War II and was awarded a WWII Victory Medal and an Occupation Medal, Germany.
Puett came back to the family dairy farm, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. After his father's death, he grew vegetables, selling them at the Mecklenburg County Market on Harding Place, Charlotte, along with fresh baked goods and flowers.
He held an Honorary Life Membership with the St. James Male Chorus. He was an Elder at Hopewell Presbyterian Church and the church's oldest male member.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Pauline (Polly) Hoover Kidd, by brothers Edward, James W., and Latta.
He is survived by his caregiver and fiance, Dorothy Buchanan, sisters Kathleen Parks and Frances Riley, sister-in-law Sheila Kidd, his friend, Charlie Witherspoon, and by his nieces, nephews and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the St. James Male Chorus, c/o Tom Skinner 4738 Brooktree Dr. Charlotte, NC 28208, and to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Rd, Huntersville, NC, 28078.
A funeral service will be conducted at Hopewell, at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 14, with the Rev. Allan Purtill officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following interment in the Family Life Center. Mr. Kidd will lie in state from 12:30-1:00 prior to the service.
