William "Bill" Ranson Jr.'s Obituary
William “Bill” Thorn Ranson, Jr. 93, of Huntersville died January 9, 2022. He was born on January 16, 1928 in Mecklenburg County to the late William Thorn and Jeffie Partin Ranson. Bill was known as “Red” to many from his high school days at Derita High School where he played baseball and basketball.
William “Bill” was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the US Army from 1950 to 1956. He spent his career working for Southern Bell. He was an active member of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church serving as elder and deacon. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Derita and Mallard Creek Volunteer Fire Departments. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in his garden. He was a long-time fan of the Carolina Tar Heels, especially basketball and the Atlanta Braves. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His big hugs will be greatly missed. He was a loving husband, father, and pawpaw.
Survivors include his wife Ethel of 68 years; son Danny and wife Kandi; daughter Annette and husband Michael; grandchildren Melissa, Heather (Joshua), Quinn (Gloria) and Kyle and great-grandchildren Gavin, Isabella and Mason.

A graveside service will be held at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church at 1 PM Friday, January 14.
