William "Bill" Ross' Obituary
William (Bill) Lee Ross, 90, of Davidson died November 26, 2023. He was born in Stanley County, NC to the late Walter and Verna Ross on May 27, 1933.
Bill attended Pfeiffer University (Jr College) on an athletic scholarship; during this time, he met his wife Bobbie of 67 years. He later enlisted in the US Army for 2 years; following his service, he received his MA from Appalachian State University; began his career at North Mecklenburg High school teaching American History and coaching baseball and jr. varsity football for 14 years.
His accomplishments included Coach of the Year 1966, 1967, 1973; two baseball 4A State Quarter Finals; two 4A Division Championships; 1966 4A State Championships; and multiple conference titles.
However, according to his many followers, his most successful accomplishments are the supportive relationships he developed with students and players; many of which he maintained throughout his life.
After obtaining his educational certfication MA from UNCC, Bill continued his career in education as Athletic Director and Asst.Principal at Garinger High School until his retirement in 1986. His hobbies continued in woodworking, golf, hunting, and maintaining a communal garden in his neighborhood. He enjoyed spending time at his mountain home High Meadows Golf and Country Club in Roaring Gap, NC.
He also idolized his grandfathering relationships and participation.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie Guthrie Ross; son, Kenneth Ross and wife Elizabeth of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Melanie Ross Chumley and husband Tom of Huntersville; siblings, Tommy Ross of New London, NC and Etrulia Frick of Rock Hill, SC; and grandchildren, Kennedy, Dylan, Morgan and Lindsay.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, December 9 at Huntersville U.M.C. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private, including extended family, at Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 10.
