Wilson M. Sadler's Obituary
A true son of Davidson, Wilson McPhail Sadler passed away at The Pines, surrounded by family and caregivers, on April 10, 2026.
Wilson was born on May 10, 1941 and grew up in Davidson, along with his twin brother Thomas, reared by their loving parents, Mattie W. Sadler and Thomas S. Sadler. He spent his life in service to his community and to his country. Wilson was a man of few words but deep feelings.
Wilson graduated from North Mecklenburg High School, earning his Eagle Scout from Davidson’s Troop 58, and then attended the University of the South. After graduation, he came right back to Davidson and devoted himself to local organizations, as well as serving for 27 years in the United States Army Reserves, retiring as a Colonel. He spent those years fulfilling his duty on weekends and throughout the summers, giving his time and leadership to his country.
The Town of Davidson also was the beneficiary of Wilson’s dedication. He was a lifelong member of St. Albans Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry and being elected as Senior Warden, a commitment he took seriously and humbly.
The Davidson Fire Department was an inextricable part of Wilson’s life. He was a fire fighter for over 50 years and was Chief for many of those years. Under Wilson’s practiced eye, the department grew from protecting a town of 3,000 to over 12,000 people. Wilson felt that each person’s life and home was his responsibility, and he gave this town his unflinching devotion.
Wilson was also a member of the Williams Masonic Lodge in Cornelius, another service organization that saw his contribution of time and talent. He started the family business, Sadler Industries, Inc, with his father, providing contracting and property management. In this business, Wilson purchased and managed a number of houses in Davidson. In his limited spare time, he was a student of history, particularly events surrounding World War II. He had an extensive collection of military memorabilia from that period.
In addition to serving others, Wilson loved offering support to his wife, Suzanne, in her gardening efforts. He enjoyed watching her gardens grow throughout town and took pride in her green thumb.
Wilson is survived by his wife Suzanne Bryant Sadler; his twin brother, Thomas S. Sadler Jr. (Laura); his brothers-in-law Harry M. Bryant Jr (Holly), Thomas L. Bryant (Clarissa), Richard K. Bryant (Suzy); and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.
A service in remembrance of Wilson will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026. The family will receive visitors at St. Albans from 1:30-3:00 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to remember Wilson with a memorial gift, the family suggests donations to The Pines Resident Support Fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036; or St. Albans Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane, Davidson, NC 28036.
