Brenda Hauk's Obituary
Brenda Margerum Hauk, 61, of Charlotte died October 18, 2015 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Middletown, OH on September 7, 1954 to the late Robert and Bethel Rae Margerum.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where her leadership, discipleship, witness and presence was monumental. She was the 2014 recipient of the Asbury United Methodist Woman of the Year Award.
Brenda was always warm, friendly, caring and willing to go above and beyond to help others. It was often said that her kind spirit seeped out of her merely by her presence.
Brenda took considerable initiative to invite others into the Asbury Church faith community and as a result this contributed enormously to the growth of membership. She was ceaselessly supportive of all outreach ministry programming and it was she who established the Asbury Food Bank Ministry in the fall of 2013. Through this programming, countless individuals have been fed and additional organizations have been assisted including: Urban Ministries of Charlotte, NC; McCreesh Place; Asbury Room In The Inn programming for the housing homeless neighbors; the Asbury Deli for the feeding of homeless neighbors and in the assisting of delivering foodstuffs to the Angels and Sparrows soup kitchen in Huntersville, NC.
Brenda demonstrated love and compassion for everyone in her life. It was most graciously witnessed in her church and in the surrounding community. It was her vision that Asbury should become a greater place of refuge, spiritual formation and prayer support. Her heartfelt mission was ultimately for the equipping of servants for discipleship.
She served faithfully with regard to additional programming including the organizing of coworkers from Wells Fargo to assist in serving meals to the homeless both on-site at Asbury and off-site as well. She was instrumental in organizing a work team to serve lunch at the Urban Ministries soup kitchen in Charlotte, NC
Brenda was also an active member of the FaithLink Sunday School Class at Asbury as well as a faithful choir member. Furthermore, she was instrumental in forming the Traveling Asburys, a singing group that frequently visited nursing homes, medical care facilities and shut-ins to take the Good News of Christ into areas of extreme loneliness and despair.
It was Brenda who initiated a project to purchase and construct a new lighted sign at Asbury so that our community could more readily understand and respond to ministries and programming that would be beneficial to them. She took the initiative to demonstrate to passersby, the mission business of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Brenda came to her church family after having suffered a personal tragedy in her life as well as the trauma of having to relocate from Jacksonville, Florida. Even so, she placed her entire life in the hands of Jesus Christ and used her faith and positivity to not only see blessings at every juncture but to encourage and inspire others all along the way.
Brenda was a senior vice-president and site manager for Wells Fargo.
Survivors include her sons, David West of Ft. Lauderdale and Dale Allen West and wife Dagmar of Cashiers, NC; siblings, Barbara Deroxto, Bob Margerum, Bill Margerum, and Donn Conn and grandchild Dale West.
Her husband Dale West (Allen) preceded her in death.
