Calvin Mason's Obituary
Huntersville- Calvin Eugene Mason (Gene), 90, passed away on the morning of Thursday, November 4, 2021. He was born on January 24, 1931 to the late Charlie P. Mason and Hattie Hoyle Mason in Derita, NC (Mecklenburg County).
Gene worked for Southern Bell/Bell South for 35 years and retired in 1985. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene (known as papa to the grandchildren and great grandchildren) loved his family and lived life to its fullest. Papa cared for animals and bees, enjoyed woodworking, and raised vegetable gardens as long as he was able. He has provided us a lifetime of wonderful memories – we will greatly miss his positive attitude and caring personality, as well as the many life lessons and experiences that we were blessed with by being part of his life.
Gene will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Joann McKee Mason; children, Beverly Mason Poston and Raymond Mason; sister, Clara Whitley; 6 grandchildren, Lori Pacheco (Danny), Daniel Eugene Pender (Mandy), Matthew Mason, Jami Hardison, Patrick Mason (Katie), and Kelci Sharp (Glen); 5 great grandchildren, Mason Pender, Josephine Pender, Vivien Pender, Matthew Mason Jr., and Silas Mason. Gene was preceded in death by his sister Betty Etier.
The memorial Service will be Saturday, December 4, 11:00 AM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte. The burial will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery in Charlotte.
