Carolyn Virginia Dellinger's Obituary
Carolyn Virginia Dellinger (Cookie) died May 6, 2015 at CMC in Charlotte, surrounded by her loving and adoring family. She was born July 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Charles Stewart Cook and Carolyn Wright Cook of Brevard, NC.
She grew up in the beauty of the Brevard mountains, then earned an Associate Arts degree at Brevard College, an RN degree at Presbyterian Nursing School, and a BS degree in Nursing at UNCC. She married Tom Dellinger on November 21, 1966 and they made their home in Charlotte and Huntersville. She was employed as an ICU nurse for many years at Presbyterian Hospital and Mercy Hospital and later worked as a hospital case manager at CMC-University Hospital, retiring in 2008.
She was an active member at Bethel Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday school teacher and on the card ministry. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and was always willing to open her heart to share her resources with her entire family. She will be remembered for her ability to overcome huge struggles and maintain her optimistic attitude and for the joy she brought to her family. She was known in the family as “the Rock.”
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas A. Dellinger and their three daughters, Kim Nelson and husband Ben; Amanda Dellinger; Pam Dellinger and 4 grandchildren, Madison Dellinger; Riley Purdue; and Kendall and Emmett Nelson. She is also survived by her brother, Stewart Cook and wife Sandra of Fountain Inn, SC; sisters Janice Woods and husband Bill of Charlotte; Anne Montgomery and husband Chris of Charlotte, as well as cherished nieces and nephews, Casey, Greg, Emily, Samantha and Andy.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC at 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Bethel Church Foundation c/o the church.
