Charles Guy was one of the greatest pastors Mt. Mitchell ever had. He was a great man and wonderful friend and always had a great sense of humor. He will truly be missed.
Mr. Charles was a wonderful neighbor and a cherished part of our community — especially as the beloved “treat man” to all the neighborhood dogs. Though I only knew him for a few years, his kindness and gentle, spirit left a lasting impression.
May he rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with Becky and the family during this difficult time.
Charles was an amazing father-in-law who always made me feel appreciated, especially when we’d get caught up talking about my military career and travels. He never missed a beat when I retired and began working in a new industry centered around drones, electric airplanes, and air taxis. His interests were vast, and he had a remarkable way of making you feel like the expert he believed you to be.
He trusted me to marry his oldest daughter and he helped me build strong, lasting relationships with his only grandchildren. That trust meant more to me than I can ever fully express.
Charles, Thank you for all you did for all of us — for the way you made each of us better. Your job here may be done, but the lessons you taught and the example you set will be carried forward for generations to come.
For 20 years, I had the blessing of living next door to Charles. Charles served as a Methodist pastor for over 30 years, but the truth is, he never stopped being a pastor. It wasn't just something he did, it was who he was. Even when much of his life was confined to a wheelchair, his spirit was never confined. In all the years I knew him, I never heard him complain about his condition. Not once. Instead, he chose gratitude and joy. Many of my memories are the simple ones, sitting on his back patio, joking and laughing and discussing world news or anything in between.
Those conversations were gifts. Charles had a way of listening that made you feel heard and valued. Even when it was difficult for him physically, he continued visiting church members in the hospital and their homes.
Think about that, a man facing his own physical challenges, still finding strength to comfort and encourage others. That's the kind heart he had.
He loved his neighbors deeply.
You could often see him and his beloved wife, Becky, riding around the neighborhood in his electric wheelchair, sharing smiles and stopping to talk. Charles never met a stranger. And if you were his friend, you were prayed for. Charles was an example of faith in action. He showed us what it means to live with dignity and trust God in every season. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charles was truly a blessing to everyone.

My grandpa and I could joke with each other all day, always trying to one up each other. His laughter and lighthearted nature, is something I'll miss terribly but greatly cherish. I'll be seeing you g-diddy and I'll be sure to save a joke for you when I do.
