Charles “Charlie” Leo Kiper died peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Novant Hospital- Huntersville after a brief illness from pulmonary fibrosis.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, August 7 at James Funeral Home located at 10520 Arahova Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078. A private burial at Salisbury National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Charlie is predeceased by his parents Coleman and Marie Kiper, and daughter Cheri Kiper. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Liz" Kiper of Charlotte, NC; his daughters Cindy (Mike) Stauffer of Charlotte, NC, and Amy (Don) Cook of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren Cayla and Chloe Stauffer, and Reagan and Jake Cook; siblings Fayetta Bohaning Georgetown KY, Marietta Dennison, Falls of Rough, KY, Helena Perry and Ina Fondern, Louisville, KY, Cletus, Nashville, NC, Leona Crain Campbellsville, KY, Regina Miller, Clarksville, IN.
Charlie was born in Grayson County, Kentucky on May 29, 1936. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marine Corps where he faithfully served his country for 20 years. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (W-3) and was a Vietnam Veteran. "Once a Marine always a Marine." Charlie was known as "Mr. Fix It," a mentor to young men, was highly involved in his community and worked closely with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department North Division to keep the neighborhood safe. He was also known as “Mayor of Wedgewood North.”
Charlie was a loving husband to Liz for 32 years. He enjoyed being a father and a Pop Pop, and treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. At the time of his death he was spending many hours at the Birkdale Golf Club.
