David Edward Sims' Obituary
David Edward Sims, 64, of Cornelius, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2016 surrounded by his family.
David was born to Robert and Doris Sims on May 8th, 1952, and he was raised in Cornelius.
After graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in 1970, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. His time in service was cut short after a life-changing accident. Although wheelchair bound for the remainder of his life, he was not defined by his injury, touching the lives of many with his smile and positive attitude. He maintained his sharp wit and trademark sense of humor throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert, and infant brother, Stephen.
Along with his mother, he is survived by his brother, Larry, sisters; Kathy Sims and Kelly Cate (Mike), niece, Courtney Leblanc (Jake), nephews; Ryan and Tyler Cate, niece, Haylee Cate, great-niece, Ava Leblanc, dear family friends; Mickey Caldwell, Phil and Carol Jackson, Debra Hahn, caregivers; Sherry Forney and Anne Talbert, and countless family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Family Life Center following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Mount Zion UMC Helping Hands or Cemetery fund.
