David Van Ringler's Obituary
David V. Ringler of Cornelius, NC died on November 28, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 13, 1939 in Friday Harbor, Washington to John and Minnie Mae Ringler.
Dave graduated from Washington State University in 1961 with a BA in Journalism and Economics. He enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1962 and served for two years in the Army’s Counterintelligence Corps in Central and Eastern Europe.
After he returned to the US, Dave began a career in claims management with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and American Reserve Company. He founded Ringler Associates, Inc. in 1975, which is the largest structured settlement company in the US. Dave served as Chairman and CEO of the company until 1992. He also was a founder of the National Structured Settlement Trade Association (NSSTA), and served as the association’s first president. Dave was recently presented the 1st Lifetime Achievement Award from the NSSTA. He was published in the Los Angeles Times, National Underwriter, and Trial Magazine, and spoke on structured settlements and the claims process throughout the United States. Dave was a nationally ranked tennis player, and he and his doubles partner were ranked in the top 10 in the US in consecutive years. Dave also completed 18 full marathons while living in Southern California. He was a member of the Peninsula Club, and Davidson United Methodist Church. Dave is survived by his beloved wife Debbie Spencer Ringler, children Reed Ringler of Lexington, KY, Dan Ringler of Encinitas, CA, Jennifer Ringler of Ventura, CA, Kert Mullinax of Charleston, SC and Brian Mullinax of Charleston, SC; 11 grandchildren and his beloved canine buddy Norman. He also is survived by his brother, John Ringler, of Seattle, WA.
A funeral service in honor of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, December 13th, 2014 at 11 AM, at Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 South Main Street, Davidson, NC. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble Street, Davidson, NC. 28036
