Dung Brown's Obituary
Mrs. Dung Thi Brown, 84, the brightest little light of love, passed away in comfort on Sunday, May 3, 2020.
Dung was born in Mỹ Thơ, Vietnam on August 18, 1935. After finishing her high school education in Saigon, she worked for the Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport before leaving for America in 1967. Arriving in California, she worked for the Department of Defense teaching Vietnamese to American Soldiers at the Vietnamese Language School. Known as a very caring individual, she volunteered and supported the Wounded Warriors during her time in California.
In 1979 she became a naturalized citizen of the United States and lived in Oregon, where she would lovingly call home for many years. She was married to Jerry K. Brown in 1972 and they parted ways in 1994. She was a hardworking woman who was a dedicated employee at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies for nearly 20 years. She was a talented seamstress and crocheter, and loved to cook wonderful food more than anything. Food was her love language and cooking for others was her gift. Anyone that sat at her table knew they were getting a piece of her heart. She moved to North Carolina in 2018 to be near her only child’s family. She was very social and happiest when she played Bingo, and when she spent time with her grandchildren. Dung was a daughter, a sister, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a very special friend. She was a strong, spirited woman in a tiny, little package who loved to be surrounded by family and friends. “You-Me” as she was called, would bring a smile to anybody who was near.
Dung is survived by her only child and loving daughter Angela Thi Lavespere, her son-in-law Greg Lavespere, and her three adoring grandchildren; Aidan, Cole and Lily Lavespere of Concord, North Carolina. Survivors, in addition to her daughter are her brothers Nguyễn Văn Quang, Nguyễn Văn Nhơn, Nguyễn Gia Bửu, Nguyễn Khải Hoàng, Nguyễn Phú Hải, Nguyễn Phú Toàn, Nguyễn Phú Vĩnh, and her sisters Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Hồng, and Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Phượng. She was the oldest of 11 children.
Dung is pre-deceased by her father Nguyễn Văn Ba, and her mother Nguyễn Thị Vàng, and a brother Nguyễn Phú Hữu.
At the family’s request, services will be private and at the convenience of her family. A celebration of Dung’s life will be held at a later date when friends and family can gather safely and remember this sweet, special lady that was full of life.
In lieu of gifts, please consider a donation in Dung’s memory to either the Dementia Society of America or the American Parkinson Disease of America, two organizations that Dung was directly impacted by.
