Dwight Cross' Obituary
Dwight Shaw Cross, Jr. 84, of Huntersville, died January 7, 2015 at his home. He was born on February 3, 1930 in Mecklenburg County to the late Dwight Shaw Cross, Sr. and Edna Beasley Cross. Dwight graduated high school and then graduated Junior College from the Oak Ridge Military Academy. He attended the General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. He was a pilot in the Air Force from 1951-56 and was a 1st LT in the 437th fighter group in Oxnard, CA. After returning home from service in 1956, he went to work for his dad at Cross Chevrolet, which he later owned. He retired in 1999. He served on the Huntersville Community Council, coached little league ball for 13 years, served on the Huntersville Town Board and was Mayor Pro Tem.
Survivors include his wife Hazel Caulk Cross; sons, Dwight Shaw Cross, III “Rusty” (and Angela Todd) and Thomas Max Cross “Tommy”, all of Huntersville; sister, Jo Cross of Flat Rock; niece, Lisa Aldred; grandchildren, Dwight Shaw Cross, IV, Elizabeth Cross Rector (and Charlie Rector) and Mattie Evan Cross; as well as his dog, Chevy.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday, January 10 at James Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday at Huntersville Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Brown and Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
