Francis "Frank" McCann's Obituary
Francis J. “Frank” McCann, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, in Cornelius, North Carolina.
A beloved husband, father and grandfather, McCann thrived professionally as a certified public accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). His 32-year career took him and his family from their collective birthplace of New York to Texas, Nebraska and North Carolina.
McCann graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1963 and voluntarily enlisted, months later, in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Orion, on the east and west coasts of the United States, in the British West Indies and in Puerto Rico. After four years of active duty, he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant (junior grade).
McCann’s early work experience included racetrack detective with the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and delivery boy for the Long Island Daily Press. He bought his first brand-new car, an iconic red Volkswagen Beetle, for $1,452 in 1964, a year before he and his wife, Karen, were married.
After his retirement in 1999, McCann enjoyed boating on Lake Norman with his wife, travels around the country to visit his children and grandchildren, and dinner/poker club with friends.
McCann is preceded in death by parents, Francis and Margaret; sister, Margaret Mullarkey, and daughter, Sharon Bearden. He is survived by wife, Karen McCann; sons, Fran (Sharon), Mike (Leslie), Matt (Renee) and Dan (Kelly); daughters, Kerry Frey (Mike) and Christina Sweeney (Matt); son-in-law, Brian Bearden; 17 grandchildren; sister, Clare McCann; and many loving relatives.
Family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 13, 2018 at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC, 28078. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 537 North Hwy 16, Denver, NC, 28037.
