Francis Carroll Mizelle Jr.'s Obituary
Francis Carroll Mizelle, Jr., 78 of Huntersville, died January 25, 2025. He was born on November 23, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Francis Carroll Mizelle, Sr. and Margaret Oehler Mizelle.
Carroll was a member of First Baptist Church of Huntersville, where he served as an usher and a teacher of the Unity Sunday School Class for over 30 years.
A 1965 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, he was truly a lifetime Viking. He taught mathematics there for 40 years and coached the girls basketball team for 27 of those. During his coaching career, he led his team to an undefeated (26-0) season and state championship in 1986. Carroll attended nearly every football and basketball game at North Mecklenburg until his death.
Carroll loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He spent much of his time growing vegetables and sharing them with family and friends. He was a neighbor to everyone he knew, and devoted his life to helping others. He was a pillar of the North Mecklenburg community and his impact will continue for many years to come.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather Gibson and husband Will of Davidson. He is also survived by his former wife, friend and caregiver, Judy Mizelle of Huntersville. He had one granddaughter, Jenna Gibson. Also surviving is his brother, Wade Mizelle, Sr. and wife Betsy of Huntersville, nephews Wade Mizelle, Jr., Jeff Abernathy, Marc Abernathy, and niece Ashley Mizelle.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 on February 1, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Huntersville with a light reception and visitation to follow.
