I am just now reading about Fred’s passing 😢. I have a great memory of Fred from camp at Remote when I was a camper and he a counselor. Fred knew the stars and we would stand in the field while he pointed out constellations. The stars are so visible and beautiful at Remote and hearing their names was fascinating. Thank you, Fred, for that particularly wonderful memory.
Fred was 'my baby', born when I was going on two years old. He arrived during Minnesota snows and I pulled him everywhere on our little sled. One time the ram belonging to the neighbor across the road chased four-year old screaming Fred up the long driveway. Fred made it through our screen door and the ram went right through the screen after him
Fred and I were 'best friends' for most of our lives...until he got a bit bossy in old age. (Smile). He introduced me to all his friends in high school, who became my dates. One summer we spent hours riding three-wheel scooters all over South Dakota country highways. I remember learning boy scout skills from Fred (girl scouts were too boring).
One time, we sat on a tipped over barrel, playing it was our horse. I 'bucked' the horse, Fred fell off and broke his arm. Mom had to take him by train sixteen miles to the dr. every week for treatments. I hated the pain Fred bore, knowing I'd caused that.
The school forced left-handed Fred to write with his right hand and he became ambi-dextrous, so felt in older years he'd gained the most from in irresponsible school policy.
I love all four of my brothers, but Fred was always my favorite.
