Fred Wallace Iverson's Obituary
Fred Wallace Iverson, age 81, formerly of Oregon and recently living in Troutman, NC, died Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Fred was born in Bertha, Minnesota and was the son of the late, Leonard Fred and Roberta Louise Townsend Iverson.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he traveled west landing in Gold Beach, Oregon the winter of 1962 where he met his one and only, Dianna, marrying her August 1963. He had a long career as a Forester with Bureau of Land Management in Oregon, but his true calling was as an Elder with the Community of Christ church. Pastor of the Myrtle Point, OR congregation for over 20 years, he spent a lifetime dedicated to serving God and others. He was a living example of how kindness, generosity, honesty, humor, humility, knowledge and faith could always overcome the trials we encounter in life.
He and his wife, Dianna moved to Troutman in 2017 to be closer to family. Fred made one last journey across the country with his daughter, making lasting memories while backtracking a trail made over 60 years before, to take up residence in North Carolina. Since their arrival, Fred has blessed the lives of those near and dear to his heart while never forgetting his family and friends out west.
In addition to his wife, Gloria Dianna Tucker Iverson, of whom he was married to for more than 55 years, Fred is survived by a son, Leonard Harvey Iverson, a daughter, Kristin Rose Iverson Cassell and her husband, Jonathan Julio Cassell of Troutman, four grandsons; Gatlin and Colton Iverson of Oakland, Oregon and Nicolas and Christian Cassell of Troutman; a sister, Geni White and her husband, Bob, and two brothers; Kenneth and John Iverson.
A Memorial Service for will be held at James Funeral Home March 9th at 1:00 pm with Pastor Brett Ashbaugh officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In remembrance of Fred, the family suggests memorials be made to Camp Remote, Oregon which Fred helped build and maintain. Contributions may be made in Fred’s name to Camp Remote, c/o Stella Myers, P.O. Box 555, Yoncalla, OR 97499.
