Gary Beckley's Obituary
Gary William Beckley, 70, of Huntersville, passed away unexpectedly August 24, 2022. He was born on May 16, 1952 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late William and Alice Beckley.
Gary grew up in Absecon, NJ. A self-proclaimed “bay rat” he was at home on the water. By the age of 12 he was always clamming, fishing, & collecting antique glass bottles he’d find buried in creek beds. He was a devoted Phillies fan, a passion he got from his father and passed down to his children. Gary was a man of exceptional character. A devoted husband and father, he dedicated his life to his family. He married his high school sweetheart, his Susie-Q, who was the apple of his eye for 46 years. Gary had an incredible work ethic. A carpenter by trade, he was a proud member of Union Local 623 for 30 years. A skilled woodworker he could build absolutely anything but had a passion for fine cabinetry and wood decor, especially for those he loved. Gary was extremely intelligent. An avid reader and researcher, he developed a passion for studying history which evolved into a love for ancestry. He was philosophical about life and was an eternal optimist. For the past 11 years, Gary derived most of his joy by spending lots of time with his beloved grandchildren. He loved all animals, especially his cat Minxy and grand-dogs. He relocated Huntersville, North Carolina in 2017 to be close to his son and daughter where he lived happily until his passing.
Gary was so loved, not only by his family but by every life he touched. The world has lost a gentle soul full of compassion, integrity and kindness. His family is devastated by this untimely loss and will never be the same. His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren and the beautiful works of art he created with his hands throughout his life.
Gary is survived by the love of his life, his wife Susan Beckley; a daughter, Aimee Tomchik and husband Brian of Huntersville; a son, Allen Beckley and wife Deeana of Charlotte; a sister, Gail Beckley; and two grandchildren, Nathan and Quinn.
