George Lee Sargent's Obituary
George Lee "Lee" Sargent, Jr., 70, of Cornelius, NC died January 25, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 19, 1943 in Boston, MA to the late George Lee Sargent and Hester Lloyd Sargent.
Lee was a wonderful father and friend to many throughout his lifetime.
He attended St. Paul's School in Concord, NH; Harvard College where he played hockey and baseball and graduated with a B.A. Degree and was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his commission, he served in Vietnam and was made Captain during his tour and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", Purple Heart; and Navy Unit Commendation. He later received a Masters Degree from Tufts University while assuming the role of assistant baseball coach.
He was a History teacher, Athletic Director, Varsity Football and Hockey coach during his 19 years at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA. During these years he also became the Vice President and Treasurer of the New England Patriots team. In 1987, he moved to Davidson, NC when hired as the Assistant Football Coach and then later became Game Operations Management Director at Davidson College.
He was avid sports fan and he especially loved the Boston Red Sox, The New England Patriots, The Carolina Panthers, and Davidson basketball. He excelled as athlete in baseball, hockey, tennis, and golf. He completed several marathons and 10K races and was ranked as a Master. For several years he volunteered as the coach of the Davidson Colt Baseball Recreational league. He served as President of the Be Active North Carolina Non-Profit Organization which promoted active lifestyles for all age groups.
Survivors include his wife Janet Wages Sargent; sons, George "Trip" Sargent and wife Chantel of Erie, CO, Matthew Manning of Chicago, IL, and David Sargent of Cornelius; daughter, Kimberly Hurtado and husband Larry of San Antonio, TX; 4 grandchildren and siblings, Fordie Madeira of Dedham, MA; Nancy Green of Sunriver, OR and Wendy Anderson of Jacksonville, FL.
A memorial service will be held at Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will also be held at St. Paul's Church, Dedham, MA on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11AM. A service at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
