Today we lay to rest a really good man. A long time resident, a former firefighter, and one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Harold Jeffrey Reid “Jeff”. It’s been said that “Jeff never met a stranger” and that is an excellent summation of the kind of man he was. He thoroughly enjoyed serving his community daily and retired as a Charlotte Firefighter (CFD Fire Station 33). Jeff also served the Gilead and Huntersville Communities, as a volunteer firefighter until he retired as Captain. We lost Jeff to cancer, he fought a long, hard, courageous and humble battle. Jeff was always a positive person, even when faced with adversity. Jeff was a big advocate of Be The Match bone marrow registry after receiving a transplant and would often speak with and support others needing a transplant. The Huntersville community held a successful blood donation and bone marrow registry event in his honor back in 2013 and Jeff shook the hand and spoke to everyone that attended that day.
Today, his family, members of the community, church and fire departments will gather to remember Jeff, tell some Jeff stories, and show the family that even though we lost Jeff – they will never be alone. The entire Fire Department community will always be there for them…it’s precisely what Jeff would expect and what he has done for others. We take an oath to our community and to each other. Rest Easy Jeff, we’re sure going to miss your smile, your laugh, your positivity and the stories about your grandsons Hayden and Hunter. We will NEVER forget you. We love you buddy and we promise to keep a close eye on Vickie.
