James Howard Townsend's Obituary
James “Jim” Howard Townsend, 79, of Cornelius, NC passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
He was born on November 4, 1937 in Mecklenburg County and was the son of the late Daniel John and Ruth Hulsey Townsend. Jim loved meeting people. He was a member and greeter for Grace Covenant Church for 39 years and was known as “Mr. Jim” to everyone. His other passion was gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia Bustle Townsend; two daughters, Teresa Perron of Huntersville and Cindy Bumgardner and husband Dana of Gastonia; two sons, Christopher “Chris” Townsend of Huntersville and James Ray Townsend of Cornelius, NC; three grandchildren, Lauren Bumgardner, Austin Bumgardner and Nicholas Perron; and one great-granddaughter, Payton Dean. He was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 3:00 PM, at Grace Covenant Church in Cornelius with Rev. Farrell Lemings officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
