Jason Paul Folk's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Jason Paul Folk “Jay Bird, Mommom’s Little Teddy Bear, Whispering Sam” December 18, 1986 – July 29, 2025 Jason Paul Folk, lovingly known by many nicknames — Jay Bird, Mommom’s little Teddy Bear, Whispering Sam — ran ahead to Heaven on July 29, 2025, in Cornelius, North Carolina, at the age of 38. Born on December 18, 1986, in Newark, Delaware, Jason lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering generosity. Jason was a gentle giant with a contagious laugh and an endless capacity for kindness. He had a unique ability to see the silver lining in every situation and never hesitated to offer help to anyone in need, often giving — quite literally — the shirt off his back. His joyful spirit, deep empathy, and boundless compassion touched everyone who knew him. A proud football player during his high school years, Jason carried that team spirit into every part of his life. He was a passionate sports fan who proudly cheered for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Ravens. Whether listening to sports talk radio or watching a game, Jason’s enthusiasm was infectious. Jason was a man of many talents — always tinkering with cars, fixing things for friends and family. He enjoyed diving into books on history and listening to various genres of music, especially The Beatles. He was also a devoted Harry Potter fan, having read the entire series many times, and named his beloved rescue cats, Andi and Ripley, after characters from the wizarding world. He never left the house without saying, “I love you, Mom,” a small phrase that reflected his enormous heart. Jason and his mother, Lisa, shared a bond that ran deep — one built on unconditional love, trust, laughter, and constant support. Jason is survived by his loving mother, Lisa Kay Boyer, and his maternal grandmother, Jerry Bivens Boyer; his father, Jeff Folk (Nancy Folk); siblings, Elizabeth and Jack Folk; and his paternal grandmother, Sunny Folk. Jason is also lovingly remembered by his Uncle Donnie Boyer (Elizabeth), Aunt Karen Meggs (Don), Aunt Gail Long-Costello (Brian), and Aunt Heather Mergenthaler (Paul). Jason leaves behind his cousin, Heather Ashley Long — his lifelong cohort in crime and constant source of laughter and support — along with many cousins who adored him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald E. Boyer; cousin, Micah Meggs; and paternal grandfather, James Folk. Jason’s absence leaves an unimaginable void, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit made the world a better place, and those gifts will never be forgotten. Memorial arrangements will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Jason’s life and legacy.
Arrangements are in the care of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
