Jerry Edward Smith's Obituary
Jerry Edward Smith, 88 years old, surrendered to his battle with Parkinson’s on July 23, 2025 at University Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jerry was born to Jeter Lee Smith and Flavy Brittain Smith on July 10, 1937. He was a proud graduate of West Mecklenburg high school class of 1955. He remained friends with many of his classmates. Jerry and Judy Jones married January 31, 1958. Judy was the love of his life and he missed her every day after her passing in 2022.
Jerry was employed by the General Electric company in their appliance division as a sales specialist after his retirement and his new antiques and collectibles business was formed and he sold at Metrolina and many other markets.
Jerry and Judy joined Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in 1966. He always said “I have served this church in every capacity except preaching and singing in the choir.” He loved his church family and they loved him. He received the legacy award from Presbytery in 2018 for his dedicated service and devotion to Jesus.
Jerry is survived by his only child Gerri Ann Shaw and her husband Clint; his granddaughter Judith Shaw and her husband Dave and his only great granddaughter McKinna. He is also survived by his brothers Richard Smith and his wife Nancy, Jim Smith and his wife Vera and his sister Sarah Rose Yandle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Judy, his brothers, Bob Smith and Jeter Smith and his sisters, Madeline Skipper and Margaret Privette.
The family would like to thank Stressfree Homecare of Stanley, North Carolina for their support, love and commitment during Jerry’s illness. We would also like to acknowledge the many friends and family members that helped Jerry have a good day almost every day. Praise God for all of you.
The celebration of Jerry Smith‘s life will be held August 17, 2025, at 4:00pm at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214.
