Dear Uncle Freddy and Cousin Eric,
I am so sorry for your great loss. I will always remember Aunt Joanne's sweet smile, soft & gentle hugs, and her sincere willingness to help others less fortunate than herself. She will truly be missed by everyone who knew her. I will always hold dear those fond memories of the holidays we spent together, and the July gatherings for Eric's birthday. Joanne made a lasting impression on everyone who met her. She had a beautiful light within her, that could never be extinguished. There were so many wonderful attributes that Aunt Joanne carried throughout every aspect of her life, that one can only wish to be half the person she was. She will greatly be missed and loved by those who met her and knew her. She will never be forgotten.

Dear Fred and Eric,
There are no words for the sense of deep loss you both must be feeling, as those hearts Joanne touched for what was a brief moment can’t help but be devastated at her passing. I was personally changed by her love and guidance, by her show of strength and care in the face of adversity. She was a teacher to both my children, a friend and guide to me, and I thank you both for sharing her with the St. Paul community. One of a kind, a true beacon to those that needed her—she glowed with warmth. Her smile was contagious and somehow through her kindness she found a way to make everyone in the room feel special. She will be dearly missed but always remembered. May she rest in peace, be wrapped in love as she so readily did to others, and may she continue to watch over you. Mrs. Salzmann was an angel for my son who was in her preschool class 28 years ago. She was so kind and loving and patient, not only with him but with me as a young mother. This was extra special because John had special needs and we were all navigating in challenging waters. Her comfort and sincerity gave me peace everytime I handed my child to her. I cried on the last day of preschool because I would miss her and what she gave to my son. She was a wonderful teacher with beautiful soul and clearly touched many children. Sending prayers of comfort to the family.

I don't think I have ever know a kinder, more loving or dedicated heart than Joanne's. She was truly one of a kind. We lived next door to each other for 20 years. I will always remember our trek through the woods to visit each other, and remember so much laughter, and so many tears. I will never forget Fred throwing that little body into the woods to protect her from an oncoming car on an icy road!! I can't believe that you are gone, dear sweet Joanne. The world will be a sadder place without you, but I know you are rejoicing with your Savior with a whole and healthy body. I didn’t know the Salzmann family until the darkest time in their lives- when Ms. Joanne had entered the Hospice House for her final journey and Eric had made a new home at the wonderful Hinds Feet Farm. Mr. Fred, Ms. Joanne and Eric all made an impression on me of dedication and love that I won’t ever forget. This beautiful lady wanted to spend one more day holding her boy- I cried then and I cry now- tears of joy at perfect love and motherhood. The love she left behind will never stop growing. I feel so honored to have witnessed a tiny bit of Joanne Salzmann’s wonder.
