John Cheeks' Obituary
John Allen Cheeks, 83, of Huntersville died May 13, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 2, 1933 in Clay County to the late John and Johnnie Cheeks. A native of Hayesville, he moved to Charlotte in the 1960s. He taught Industrial Arts at Alexander Junior High School (now Alexander Middle School). He also worked part time with Carolina Tractor. John was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school director, a deacon, on the building committee and much more. He was active in the American Legion and a member of the Clay County Masonic Lodge. He loved gardening, woodworking, reading and food!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Ermal Cheeks and daughter-in-law, Robin Cheeks.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Cheeks, their children, Eddie Cheeks (Teresa) of Mooresville, Connie Munday (Rodney) and Jeff Cheeks (Kim) both of Huntersville; grandchildren, Ryan Cheeks (Kim), Kristie Bramlett (Kelly), Jonathon, Shelby and Jacob Cheeks, Jordan Keller; great-grandchildren, Ryan Nearing, Brice Scott, Blake Bramlett, Camryn and Jordyn Decker and Savannah Smith; brothers, Bruce Cheek (Mae Lee) and Herbert Cheeks (Glenda); sister, Carolyn Gregory (Bob); sister-in-law, Jo Cheeks and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, May 17 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Pierce officiating. Visitation will be 1:30-3:00 prior. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Hopewell Baptist Church, 18841 Davidson-Concord Rd. Davidson, NC 28036.
