Joseph John Dyer Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph John Dyer Jr., age 61, of Mount Holly, NC, formerly of Alloway, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 18, 2020. Born August 5, 1958 to Joseph J. Dyer Sr. and Joan Annette (Matteo) Dyer, he was the third of six children. He is survived by his wife Susan Haslett Dyer, son Joseph J. Dyer III (Jay) and fiancée Daniela of Austin, TX, and daughter Jessica Rose of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sister Debra McGowan and brothers Thomas Dyer and John Dyer. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother John Joseph Dyer and Patrick James Dyer.
He graduated from Pennsville Memorial High School in 1976 as part of the bicentennial class, and University of Delaware in 1980 with a sociology/criminal justice degree. Joe began his career in 1981 as a senior probation officer for Salem County and later became the Superintendent of the Salem County Alternative Youth Shelter and Salem County Juvenile Detention Center. In 2008, he started working at Occidental Chemical Corp. as a console technician, until his retirement in 2019.
Joe was a past president and vice president of the Salem County Sportsmen’s Club Board of Directors, Arc of Salem County Board of Directors member, and Alloway Township School Board of Education president and vice president for several years. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, never to be seen without his red Phillies hat. He enjoyed eating crabs, spending time with loved ones, and serving his community.
