Kate was such a sweet person and an inspiration to us all. She worked so hard, was so smart and was always a true professional. During even the most difficult times, she remained as cordial, professional and hard working as always. I have great respect and admiration for Kate as I know everyone who knew her does as well. What many may not know about our co-worker who worked in the Contracts section is that she was and always has been a strong safety advocate and supporter.
When Kathy (as she was called when she first joined us) joined Engineering and Property Management many years ago (around 2006), she first worked closely with Andy Babson and others at what was known as the SCIP office (South Corridor Infrastructure Project) as an administrative professional serving in an office manager role. Before joining us, she had extensive experience with safety in her previous jobs and wanted to make the SCIP office fully OSHA compliant and went to work on this goal before Andy and I could even approach her to ask for her help. We did not know the depth of her safety knowledge, but immediately found out that she could do it all without me or Andy’s help. She put together an extensive safety notebook in quick order! From that day forward she has always been a friend to safety and always will be in our hearts. She always believed that we all should have a part in safety and protecting each other. We should all try to follow the fine example that she set. God bless her family. Rest in Peace, Kate Reid.
