Huntersville, NC — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Laura Allen Varney, 66, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on October 1, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1958, in Port Read Obituary
Laura was one of the first ladies I met when I joined a ladies group in Phoenix. She invited me and another lady to dinner one night soon after. That night I found her to be a thoughtful and fun lady. She was missed when she moved East, but I understood she wanted to be closer to family. My condolences to the family.
Here in Arizona it was such a pleasure getting to know Laura. It was always a treat when she was able to attend our bookclubs. Her sharing stories of her life past and present was very endearing. I will remember her with much fondness. My heart goes out to all her family and friends over this tremendous loss. 💙

We met Skip at Deer Valley Airport in Arizona and quickly became friends with Skip and Laura. We shared RV, camping, and flying weekends, and were so sad when they moved to North Carolina to be closer to their grandkids. For Laura especially, family was absolutely the most important part of her life.
While living in Arizona, Laura gave us an indelible memory which we still laugh about. Several pilots and spouses, including Skip and Laura, flew to Payson for an annual camping weekend in the pilots-only campground. Laura asked about electrical outlets before going, to ensure that she could use her blow-up air mattress in their tent. Skip and Laura took their mattress up to the restrooms to plug it in to inflate, then lugged it over to their camping spot. As you can imagine, we all laughed hysterically watching them trying to wrestle a fully inflated large air mattress into the much smaller U-shaped door of their tent. Laura, we love you and will never forget you.
