Lucy Constance Nunziata Garcia's Obituary
Lucia Constance Nunziata Garcia, known as Lucy to her friends, died Sunday, June 30, 2019, at the age of 98. Born in Brooklyn, New York of Italian immigrants whose names are memorialized on Ellis Island. Lucy moved to Charlotte North Carolina to be near her grandchildren. Lucy was the youngest and the last of four sisters: Josephine Alonge, Constance DeNardo, and Frances Celli.
Lucy had loved life and spread her joy to everyone she met. She had a big smile that could light up a room and a warm welcoming hug for everyone. She enjoyed having her friends and family sitting at her table enjoying her Italian cooking. She also had a passion for gardening which was evident in the beautiful flowers, vegetables and rose gardens that greeted you at her home. Lucy was constantly busy and when she finally did sit down she was known to surround herself with math books spending hours solving equations and recording her solutions which she enjoyed and felt so proud. Lucy had been a teacher
and assistant principal at Notre Dame elementary school in New York, and later worked at Bren Mar Park elementary school, finally retiring in her late 80s. Her love for helping children continued and she volunteered even in her 90's at Cabarrus Charter School where her two great-granddaughters attended where she could fill her heart by giving them a wave every day. Her family was her pride and joy.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances, her two granddaughters; Brigitte (Brian) and Susan, and her two great-granddaughters; Alyssa and Gabriella. Lucy was a loving wife for 57 years to her husband Mario, now deceased, and a doting mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Lucy touched are invited to commemorate her life on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at James Funeral Home at 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville. North Carolina beginning at 2:30 PM. A Memorial Service will follow beginning promptly at 3:30 PM.
