Marilyn Bissinger's Obituary
Mrs. Marilyn Bissinger, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 07, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Marilyn was born in Fort Wayne, IN and lived in Virginia before moving to North Carolina in 2005. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. Marilyn was a loving wife and mother, known for her kind smile and her love of baking, playing games, and spending time with family and friends. She especially cherished time spent with her family after she and her husband retired to Smith Mountain Lake, where she enjoyed going out on the boat and taking in the beautiful views. Marilyn took great joy in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, enthusiastically cheering them on from the stands. She enjoyed playing sports herself and was an avid bowler when she was younger. She was also passionate about traveling with her husband, she particularly enjoyed visiting many of the National Parks in the United States. Marilyn was proceeded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Bernice Relue; her son, Stephen; two brothers, Leonard and Jerry Relue and a sister Eleanor Sarrazine (Relue).
Mrs. Bissinger is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Bissinger, two children; Karen Bissinger of San Diego, CA, and Jason Bissinger (Michelle) of Stanley, NC., Daughter-in-law, Karen Bissinger (Murray), grandchildren; Vanessa, Madison and Luke; sister Carolyn Reith (Relue) of Fort Wayne, IN and brother Edward Relue of Ossian, IN.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, 14740 Stumptown Rd in Huntersville on Monday, January 12th at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 11th at the James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr., Huntersville, NC. A private burial service for the family and close friends will take place at Northlake Gardens following the funeral Mass.
