Marjorie Ashford's Obituary
Mrs. Marjorie Ashford, 94, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Serenity House in Mooresville. Marjorie was born on October 2, 1923, in Charlotte, the daughter of Roy and Orrie Watts. She was a member of University City United Methodist Church, the Wesley Fellowship Class, and the Sew & Sews Craft Group. She was also a member of Circle #2 at Bethel Presbyterian Church. She worked as a secretary for many years for Charlotte Mecklenburg schools (Hoskins and Briarwood Elementary). She enjoyed quilting, sewing and playing cards. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gary L. Ashford Sr. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers: Lucretia Smith, Roy Hunter Watts (Buddy), Milton Watts, Carol York, Herman Watts, Sue Stafford and Roy Hunter Watts .
Mrs. Ashford is survived by her children, Gary Ashford (Hope), Karen Barbee, and Robin Tomei (Rick); grandchildren, Scott, Kathleen, Kristine, Brent, and Katelyn; great grandchildren, Caroline, Kinsley and Kira; and brother, Edward Watts.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm. at University City United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 11, followed by a memorial service. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
