Marjorie Carlson Evans' Obituary
Marjorie Carlson Evans, of Davidson, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2014 following a period of declining health. She was born in Felton, Minnesota on August 8, 1918. She was a graduate of Concordia College and took Early Childhood Education training at The National College Of Education (Northwestern University). She married Edwin B. “Ted” Evans on June 4, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Fredericksburg, Ohio and were active members of the Wayne County community. She and her husband have three daughters, Rebecca Carlson-Evans of Saline, Michigan, Julie Hoffman (Mark) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Marnie Reber (Fred) of Mooresville, North Carolina; Six Grandchildren, Erin Rebecca Boeve Cebulski (Jeff), Peter Evans Boeve (Joelle), Kurtis Bradrick Hoffman, Russell Evans Hoffman, Abigail Reber Lawler (Andrew), and Mary Elizabeth Reber, and three great-grandaughters, Lydia Rose Cebulski, Elise Katherine Cebulski, and Gwyneth Marie Boeve. She was also “Mimi” and “Aunt Marge” to many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Mrs. Evans was a retired teacher and resided in Wayne County, Ohio for over 50 years. Beginning in 1952, she introduced then taught the first Kindergarten class at Apple Creek Elementary. She also taught at Fredericksburg Elementary. She completed graduate work at Ashland College (now University) as a Reading Specialist. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Wooster and her local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, League of Women Voters, andWooster Community Hospital Volunteers. She loved music, traveling, was an avid reader and a devout Christian. She was a student of religion and spiritual growth. A life- long learner and encourager she easily shared her faith with others. She took genuine delight in every person she met. She followed national and international politics and stayed informed of current events.
In 2008 Mrs. Evans moved to North Carolina and resided at The Pines at Davidson. She attended Bethel Presbyterian Church and Davidson United Methodist Church as often as she could.
Mrs. Evans was a three- time Cancer survivor. In 2012 she suffered a tragic fall. She rallied back and embraced the work and therapy to recover. The family is deeply grateful to all who provided her care.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Evans, parents Eddie and Lilly Carlson, her sister Ruth Vahl and brothers Walter Carlson and Richard Carlson.
North Carolina friends may greet the family at a reception at the Pines at Davidson on Tuesday, March 18th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A memorial service of celebration will be in Wooster, Ohio later in the summer. In Lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to their local Hospice provider or a charity of their choice.
