Mark Daidone's Obituary
S. Mark Daidone, III died Saturday, June 11 at his home in Cornelius in the company of his wife and sons.
Mark was born on May 24, 1957 in Birmingham, AL, was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama, and devoted to Crimson Tide football. At Bama, he was a brother of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and his son, John, has proudly followed into the ATO chapter at North Carolina State University. He was a member of Denver Bassmasters. At the recent FLW Southern Open Bass Tournament on Lake Norman, Mark finished 32 as a co-angler, with the most weight caught the second day. Mark was also employed by Airgas where he was project manager.
Mark is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lisa, and his sons, Alex, 23, of Charlotte, and John, 20, of Cornelius.
The family would like to thank the many many people in the medical profession who helped keep Mark well and happy since he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006. It took a village of the best at what they do…
Jeffrey G. Cardwell, MD who insisted Mark have his gall bladder removed. Thomas B. McElwee, MD who performed the gall bladder surgery and saw Mark’s first tumor. Steven A. Limentani, MD, the leader of Mark’s team of doctors, for his excellence of care and the confidence he projects. Also, Helen Ferris and everyone at Carolinas Hematology and Oncology. Anthony J. Crimaldi, MD and everyone at CMC Radiation Oncology who not only treated Mark, but treat patients and their family as friends. Eric A. Wang, MD for his skill as a surgeon and as a person. Douglas B. Robinson, MD, PhD for working for years to keep Mark’s blood sugar in check and to the nurses who taught the rest of the family to do it. David A. Iannetti, Sr., MD for his skill as a surgeon and for being honest, no matter how bad the news. Larry Kvols, MD and the people at Moffitt Cancer Center. Scott R. Broadwell, MD for treating both Mark’s tumors and his family’s concerns. Andrew Dries, MD for knowing what was wrong and for making Mark’s stomach feel better. Kellye N. Worth, MD who figured out what tests Mark needed and was more a human being than a doctor. And everyone else at CMC who helped.
