Martha Bailey Peck's Obituary
Mrs. Martha Bailey Peck, 94 of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
She was born on December 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Capitola and Jesse Bailey. Martha was a native of Eagle Springs, NC and graduated from West End High School in West End, NC. She lived most of her life in the Huntersville area. She was a devoted member of Huntersville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and was awarded Elder Emeritus in November, 2013. She also served as Worthy Matron in the Long Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star in 1970-71. Martha was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed preparing everyday meals for her family, but specifically loved making the Holiday meals for the entire extended family. She enjoyed gardening and the solitude of peace it brought her. Martha loved spending time with her family and friends. She brought joy and encouragement to all those who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Martha’s love of gardening and flowers compelled her to open a floral shop known as Ferrell’s Florist. She owned and operated it for many years. Although the florist was located in the Derita area of Charlotte, her beautiful arrangements were delivered all over Charlotte and beyond.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Capitola Bailey, brothers James Burrell Bailey and Benjamin Angus Bailey.
Mrs. Peck is survived by her three children - Diane Auten (Brice), Ralph Ferrell, Jr. (Linda) and Deborah Davis (Norman), all of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren - Stephanie Bissell (Howard), Blake Smith, Adam Ferrell, Danielle Ferrell, Carly Davis and Bailey Davis; great grandchildren - Ward, Burns and Owen Bissell. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Martha’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at James Funeral Home of Huntersville, with a brief reception afterwards. The family will receive friends from 7:00–9:00 p.m. Friday May 4 at the funeral home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be; Ralph Ferrell, Brice Auten, Norman Davis, Adam Ferrell, Ward, Burns and Owen Bissell.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Fedor, the Sanger Clinic, the wonderful staff of Aldersgate Retirement Community, the nursing staff at Atrium Health and the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
