Mary Ann Hawkins Taylor
On March 8, 2020, Mary Ann Hawkins Taylor, of Davidson, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a bout with lung cancer. Born July 17, 1934 to Thomas Finley and Lucy Sullivan Hawkins, she was predeceased by her husband Clifton Linwood Taylor, Jr.
Left to hold her lessons and love in their hearts are her children Sandra Taylor Bagwell (Joey), Janet Taylor Hargrove (Buddy), Mark Wayne Taylor (Lori), grandchildren Matt Bagwell, Scott Taylor, Jake Bagwell, Whitney Taylor Greaney (Patrick) and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sisters and their spouses, Kathryn Hawkins Hill, Margaret Hawkins Thomas (Donald), and Charlotte Hawkins Adams (Harry). She was greatly loved by many nieces, nephews, coworkers, friends and students.
Raised in Charlotte, Mary Ann graduated from Charlotte Central High School in 1952, attended Catawba College, Queens College, UNC Chapel Hill, and graduated and received her Masters and advanced degrees from UNC Charlotte. She touched many lives while teaching at Hawthorne Jr. High, Alexander Jr. High School and Davidson IB Middle School.
She loved gardening, spending time at her family mountain home, traveling, playing cards, working puzzles, and helping others. She enjoyed attending and serving at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
She often stated that she led a very happy life and loved her family, friends, students, and the Lord.
Due to the cultural climate, the government has issued a statement asking that the public avoid large gatherings for health safety reasons. The family requests that the service be attended by family members only. A live stream of the memorial service will be broadcast via Davidson College Presbyterian Church Facebook page. A memorial will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 2 pm in the sanctuary at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. The public is encouraged to send their condolences to the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Davidson College Presbyterian Church, The Pines Residents' Fund, or the charity of your choice.
