Michael Christopher Bunting's Obituary
Beloved Husband, Brother, Uncle & Friend - 1/20/1946 - 12/30/2025
Michael Christopher Bunting, age 79, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and adventure. Born to Winfred Cox Bunting and Hazel Edith Hill Bunting, Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, who raised him in the faith and values that would shape his life.
Michael is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Kimberly Porterfield Bunting, who stood by his side through life's many journeys. He is also survived by his sister, Marion LaVerne Bunting Hayes, age 91 years, of Charlotte, NC. Michael's memory will be fondly held by his niece, Dana Hayes Jones, her husband Thomas, and their son Keegan, all of Charlotte, NC.
Raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Michael's faith was a guiding light throughout his life. He took great joy in discussing Bible teachings with others and sharing the hope and comfort his beliefs brought him.
Michael's career in television spanned over two decades, beginning as a TV cameraman. With dedication and creativity, he advanced to become a TV director and producer, working for Public TV stations in Charlotte, NC, and Virginia Beach, VA. His passion for storytelling and visual arts left a lasting impact on the many colleagues and viewers he inspired. Later, Michael transitioned into land development, where he applied his vision and leadership until his retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a man of many interests. He found freedom in the skies as a small plane pilot and tranquility on the waters of Lake Norman while boating. He cherished time spent vacationing at the beach, where he could relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. And he was also known for his tender-hearted love for animals as well as for destitute people truly in need of assistance.
Michael's sense of humor, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His legacy of courage and faith will continue to inspire his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A private family burial will be held at Northlake Memorial Gardens in Huntersville, NC, and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date to remember Michael's life.
