I moved to Sayville in 7th grade. Michael and I lived very close to each other relative to the bus stop line. He was on the side of the stop that got the bus; I was not (I think the rule was 1.5 from the school). So, I drove my dad’s 3 speed to M.S., it wasn’t bad until It started to get cold and snow already on the ground. I think the bus stop was actually closer to my house than Michael’s. Anyway, I decided enough is enough and I will no longer ride the 1.49 miles on my dad’s 3 speed, I would ride the bus! I am thinking... who would enforce the 1.5 mile rule. I soon found out that the rule was stickily enforced by the snow ball throwing guys at the corner of Railroad Ave and Swayze St (Micheal, Rudy, Tony and likly Niel too). Long story short I rode my dad’s bike all of M.S. It was when we got to H.S. that I got to know Micheal through Kieth Ares.
Michael was someone that I looked up to because he knew everybody, enjoyed the company of others and didn’t take s**t from anyone. Even with the distance we still remained good friends, phone calls and texting back and forth over the years.
Michael… I miss you already. Please have a couple cold ones ready for when I join you. Beers not snowballs 😊
