I met Ms. Nancy for the first time briefly in 1985, but the encounter w/her that formed our beginnings (but not our ending) was when Rhonda (her daughter, aka Goldy) got pregnant w/our daughter Whitni in 1989. Mom (as I grew to call her) took that very seriously bc the expectations she had for Rhonda was to thrive in life & to her, I kind of interrupted that plan. So she devised a plan & that was for Rhonda & I to be wedded. Being very young, prideful & immature, that did not fair well w/me & I resisted. I couldn't understand her vision for Goldy & myself, nor the future/security of our first child & daughter's life, as a result we never truly developed a trusting or respected relationship. Over the years I revisited that season in my life, & the perspective I've gain w/respect for Ms. Nancy's vision became clear down the road... all she desired for Rhonda & I was the best for a not-so-desirable situation for two visionless, young adults. :) In our latter years, we were able to converse about those times & I made it very clear that I now understood her vision "then" & therefore implored her forgiveness. She accepted & stated, "Sam, life is too short to hold on to past mistakes bc we all have our share of them"... I said, "Thanks!" From time to time I would call her & we would laugh about the past, present & future concerning many things, but there's one thing she said to me that I'll never forget, after a conversation one evening, I said to her as our call was ending... I LOVE YOU MOM & SHE REPLIED, I LOVE YOU TOO SAM! Our relationship was forever modified! The Word of God says, "The end of a thing is better than its beginning..." Ecclesiastes 7:8a. NKJV. We finished better! To Rhonda, the mother of our now two beloved children, our grands, the family & friends of this brazen, intelligent, humorous, beautiful & one-of-a-kind woman, be very grateful to God for sharing such a treasure to grace your presence. It is bc of Ms. Nancy that our lives will forever be changed & I will always be grateful for what she's given me... A Family! ♥️ Sam
