Patricia McKinney's Obituary
Patricia J. McKinney, who was born in Racine, Wisconsin on December 5, 1952, was an adored daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her husband David, to whom she was married 44 years. She's also survived by her daughter Laura and son-in-law Jeff Snowden, along with three precious grandchildren - Hunter, Brandon and Emma - who were the light of her life. Also surviving are her mother Marilyn Griffith, sister and her husband Liz and Bob Selby and their children, and brother and his wife John and Linda Griffith. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard A. Griffith, and brother, David Allen Griffith.
We will celebrate Pat's life on Monday, July 10, at 10:30am at LFC-Huntersville. Michael Flake and Novant Health Chaplain David Lytle will officiate.
Pat served on LFC's set-up team, participated on the Urban Plunge and supported Children's Impact Network, traveling to Honduras with the summer mission teams in 2014 and 2015 where she sponsored a child. She also was a volunteer with Hope Cancer Ministries, gathering LFC women to make cards and donate food for holiday meals.
A native of North Carolina, Pat was anointed in life from a young age as a caretaker and compassionate nurse. Her huge, warm smile and genteel words also were a gift to all who knew her. Pat always went out of her way to help others. Many talk about how Pat walked the scary cancer journey with them, providing them not only with the details of their treatment options, but also giving them hope and encouragement in their living their way back to health.
Pat retired from Novant Medical Center-Huntersville after 29 years as a cancer nurse navigator, and she rallied many in the community with her passion for the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life event.
To continue her legacy of serving, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's name to either of these two ministries she cared for deeply:
Children's Impact Network: Honduras Life Center - Donate here.
World Outreach - International Theological Education Network via Steve Woodworth: Developing teachers in more than a dozen countries who equip their own indigenous people to live on mission for the glory of God. To make a donation, send a check by mailing it to EPC World Outreach, 5850 TG Lee Blvd., Suite 510, Orlando, FL 32822 (include Woodworth, #317 in the memo).
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
